The IMO Res. MEPC.107(49) resolution regulates the design and performance of the oily water separators (OWS)and the 15 ppm Bilge Alarms for machinery space bilges of ships. Each ship must have a certified 15 ppm bilge alarm for measuring the oil content in the discharge water. The 15 ppm Bilge Alarm type BilgMon 488 is approved and certified in accordance with the latest IMO resolution MEPC.107(49) and in addition, designed to meet the particular needs from the crew when processing the bilge water.

These oil content monitors are our default monitor for our BRUTE OWS and Bilge Filter and come with a 5 year certification which means it is certified to meet IMO/MEPC 107 (49) requirements for 5 years——-as long as the seal on the unit is not broken or missing. After 5 years it has to be re-calibrated to be certified as compliant with regulations. Big trouble awaits you if your monitor is out of certification because you would then be out of compliance with IMO/MEPC 107 (49) requirements and operating illegally. While there are a few recalibration services around, doing that takes you out of operation. The solution or work-around for that is simply getting a new measuring cell and simply installing it on your oil content monitor and you are then instantly recertified for another 5 years——-as long as you don’t break the seal on the measuring cell. NEW BRUTE IMO MEPC 107(49) Certified 107 Series Bilge Oil Water Separator

In January of 2005, many countries began requiring new ships and ships replacing oil water separators (over 400 tons) to meet the IMO MEPC 107(49) regulations. This regulation requires removal of not only free oil as the previous regulation did, but also what is called “fluid C”. Also oil content monitors are required to track results of separation. This new requirement has significantly raised the price of a bilge separator and limited the separators to choose from. The BRUTE Series 107 brings you the best, economical system available today to meet this new requirement. Our filter exchange program makes it easy.

BRUTE Series “HF” Marine/Industrial High Flow Oil Water Separator

This new option can save a tremendous amount of money on a separator in the situation when large amounts of water need to be processed that are mostly clean, but must be monitored and processed if oil content is above the limit. As an example 400 gpm can be processed from a pond or tank and moniored continuously. The separator is bypassed until it is needed and then processes the oily water at 45 gpm when needed.

Our line of BRUTE marine Oily Water Separator is certified by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). These certifications include both the older IMO MEPC 60(33) certification and the new IMO MEPC 107(49) certification. Units were tested by certification labs to operate within the limits and regulations of the IMO standards. Coast Guard certification is therefore available for your unit as an option if you need it.

The IMO has established the standards that have to be met for certification. Our BRUTE units have been tested to these standards and the testing verified by the USCG for regulations 107(49).

ABS has given it’s type approval to the BRUTE Separator.
